There is so much you alone can do to actually help yourself. It may sound strange but there is a certain reason for it. According to Ayurveda, everyone has a healer inside. This healer protects us from infections, viruses, bacteria, etc. It heals our body when we accidentally hurt or burn ourselves. And there is no magic, we all know the name of this healer: it is our immune system. Let’s imagine how it works. Let’s take, for example, a respiratory system – its function is taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide. The air you inhale is full of viruses, dust, bacteria. Does it come directly into your lungs? No, it doesn't. Your respiratory system is built to defend itself, to clean air from particles and viruses just before they come to your lungs. What about your digestion? It converts food into nutrients and absorbs them. At the same time, your digestive system is a primary defender of our health. Saliva dilutes the numbers of microorganisms, washes teeth, and the mouth. The stomach produces acid which destroys harmful microbes, coming with food and water. Finally, our gut works like a gatekeeper. It is filled with friendly bacteria that stop pathogens from going inside. Skin, mucous membranes, white cells, etc., they all are here for our protection. This is a healer inside of us. It's amazing! And it's beyond comprehension that we have all these protective shields and are still suffering from various diseases. Why does it happen? Knowingly or unknowingly we weaken our defenders, therefore we support our enemies. Food, lifestyle, perception, ecology have the most supportive and most destructive power. It is your responsibility and your choice to boost your immunity or weaken it. The goal of Ayurveda is to share the knowledge on how to aid your healer and improve your health.
